Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr has agreed to a contract extension that will keep him at the helm through the 2025-26 season. This means that Kerr, who has been coaching the Warriors for a decade, will continue his hunt for a fifth championship and more.
Under Kerr’s leadership, the Warriors have won four NBA championships (2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022), reached six NBA Finals (2015-2019, 2022), and made seven postseason appearances (2015-19, 2022-23). Kerr has also led the team to the NBA’s single-season wins record of 73 and won the NBA Coach of the Year award in 2015-16.
Joe Lacob, the Warriors Co-Executive Chairman & CEO, expressed his excitement about the extension, stating that Kerr’s management skills and integrity make him the ideal individual to lead the team. Kerr’s accomplishments as a player and coach are astonishing, and he is one of the few coaches in NBA history to achieve such success.
Kerr, who played for 15 years and won five NBA championships as a player, now has nine championships as either a player or coach. He is the first person ever to win at least three NBA titles as a player and three as a coach. Kerr’s NBA experience spans 35 years as a player (15), coach (nine), television analyst (eight), and front office executive (three).
Kerr expressed his gratitude towards the franchise for the trust they have placed in him to coach the team, and he is thrilled to continue the partnership that he has enjoyed for the past decade. Kerr acknowledges that he has been blessed with a talented coaching staff and amazing players who have worn the Warriors uniform during his tenure.
In addition to his role with the Warriors, Kerr was named the 2022-24 USA Basketball Men’s National Team head coach, and he coached the US squad at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He will lead the team in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games scheduled for July 26-August 11 in Paris, France.
