Philadelphia 76ers rookie guard Jared McCain will be sidelined indefinitely after an MRI on Saturday revealed a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, which would require surgery. McCain said he had soreness after the 121-107 loss to the Pacers.
McCain, the 16th overall pick in the draft out of Duke, has been a star player for the struggling Sixers. The rookie is leading all first-year players in scoring, averaging 15.3 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists through 23 games. He has scored 20 or more points in eight games this season, including a career-high 34-point performance against Cleveland in mid-November.
Injuries to Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George — the team’s hyped “Big Three” after George’s offseason acquisition — have derailed the Sixers’ season. The trio has played together in parts of just three games, contributing to the team’s disappointing 7-16 start.
Despite the challenges, McCain has been a standout, offering hope for the Sixers’ future. His absence is a significant blow to a team already struggling with consistency and health.
