The National Basketball Association (NBA) traditionally holds its annual All-Star Game in February. This year, the 73rd NBA All-Star Game will take place on Sunday, February 18 at 8 p.m. ET. The game will be held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, and will be broadcast on TNT in the United States. The game is also expected to reach millions of fans in more than 200 countries and territories, in over 50 different languages.
In the NBA All-Star Game, the most elite basketball players from both the Eastern and Western Conferences are selected to compete against each other. The starters of each team are chosen through a voting process that includes input from fans, players, and the media. This year, fans were able to vote for their favourite All-Star starters from December 19 to January 20 through the NBA All-Star Voting presented by the AT&T program.
The NBA players and media also joined fans in selecting the NBA All-Star Game starters. All current players and a media panel accounted for 25 per cent each of the voting, while fans accounted for 50 per cent of the total vote. Players and media completed one ballot each.
After all the votes have been tallied, NBA players are ranked in each conference by position (guard and frontcourt) within each of the three voting groups – fan votes, player votes, and media votes. Each player’s score is calculated by averaging his weighted rank from the fan votes, player votes, and media votes. The two guards and three frontcourt players with the best score in each conference will be named NBA All-Star Game starters. Fan voting will serve as the tiebreaker for players in a position group with the same score.
The official announcement of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game starters and captains will be revealed on Thursday, January 25 at 7 p.m. ET, during the TNT NBA Tip-Off presented by CarMax. Following the All-Star announcement, TNT will air a double-header featuring the Boston Celtics against the Miami Heat at 7:30 p.m. ET, and the Sacramento Kings against the Golden State Warriors at 10 p.m. ET.
According to the third fan returns released on January 19, Los Angeles Lakers forward, LeBron James, and Milwaukee Bucks forward, Giannis Antetokounmpo, led the Western and Eastern Conferences, respectively. Fans can tune in to TNT on Thursday night to find out the 10 players who will be named NBA All-Star 2024 starters.
