Jalen Brunson, known for his stellar performance in the previous NBA season, has secured a lucrative 4-year contract valued at $156.5 million. This decision has raised eyebrows, as he had the opportunity to sign a more substantial 5-year deal worth $269 million. However, speculations suggest that Brunson may have opted for the smaller contract to allow flexibility in the team’s budget to potentially recruit another high-caliber player, like Mikal Bridges, who was recently acquired through a trade.
The New York Knicks have experienced a notable resurgence in their playoff appearances, making it to the postseason for the second consecutive year, largely attributed to Brunson’s exceptional contributions. Averaging an impressive 28.7 points per game and achieving a remarkable four-game streak of scoring 40 points, Brunson played a pivotal role in propelling the Knicks to the second seed in the Eastern Conference. Notably, his outstanding performance also earned him the 5th rank in the regular season MVP voting.
Leon Rose, the President of the New York Knicks, lauded Brunson’s impact, stating, “Jalen has embraced every challenge since he’s come to New York and has been committed since day one to the vision and plan we set forth for the future of this team. Since Jalen joined us two years ago, he has consistently led by example and continues to show a willingness to sacrifice for this organization, his teammates and everyone in the Knicks family.”
