The Boston Celtics have been active in the trade market recently, acquiring guard Jaden Springer and a future second-round pick from the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for a second-round pick. The 19-year-old Springer, who was selected 28th overall in the 2021 NBA Draft, has shown promise in his limited minutes with the Sixers this season. In 11.8 minutes per game, he has averaged 4 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists, and has become a regular part of the team’s rotation in recent weeks.
In a separate move, the Celtics traded forward Dalano Banton to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for a protected second-round pick and cash considerations. Banton, another rookie, was a second-round pick by the Raptors in the 2021 NBA Draft and was later traded to the Celtics. He has appeared in 14 games this season, averaging 2.3 points and 1.5 assists per game.
The Celtics’ acquisition of Springer gives them another young player to develop as they look to build for the future. The 76ers, meanwhile, add another future asset in the form of a second-round pick. As for the Blazers, they add some depth to their frontcourt rotation with the addition of Banton, who will join a group that includes Kris Murray, Matisse Thybulle, Jermai Grant, and others.
