One of the most exciting trades of the off-season was the Dejounte Murray to the Pelicans trade. In my opinion, With Zion and Ingram on the roster, although they lost Jonas Valanciunas, I believed that the Pelicans would be a top 5 team in the NBA. I think we can all agree that they have been pretty disappointing so far.
Dejounte Murray has missed 17 games prior to tonight, and as a result the Pelicans have a 4-15 record, dead last in the western conference. The Pistons, Hornets, Blazers and Jazz have better records than the Pelicans, and their rosters are nothing compared to the big three out in New Orleans.
Not only Dejounte Murray has been sidelined this season, as usual, Zion Williamson has also missed 12 games this season, due to illness and a hamstring injury, Herb Jones and Ingram also have missed games this season due to injuries and illness.
Murray’s injury consisted of a fractured left hand, but there were also family matters that also occurred during the recovery of his hand. His mother had a stroke and he was more focused on that, as he should be,
“I’m ready to hoop. Play for my mother – she’s going to be watching,” Murray said. “I’m ready to compete, bring that winning spirit.”
In the 2 games Murray has played this season he has averaged 14 Points per game, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game.
Hopefully the former All-Star can turn things up in his return and help the Pelicans win some games, alongside Ingram, Williamson and a supporting cast full of youth, talent and defense, I still wouldn’t count them out of at least the Play In Tournament.
