On Monday night, Domantas Sabonis, made it the longest single-season double-double streak since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77. This season, Sabonis has been a force to be reckoned with, averaging an impressive 20.0 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. If he continues to perform at this level, he is expected to follow in the footsteps of Wilt Chamberlain, who achieved the same feat in the 1967-68 NBA season.
In the last 53 games, Sabonis has been on fire, achieving an incredible 20.4 points, 14.4 rebounds, and 8.7 assists, along with a streak of 23 triple-doubles. This is a record-breaking achievement, as it has been over 45 years since we have seen a player have more consecutive single-season double-doubles. Sabonis tied Kevin Love’s 53-game streak from the 2010-11 season with the Kings’ win over the Magic on Saturday.
Sabonis has played in all 70 games this season and is expected to continue his impressive performance. However, tonight’s game in Sacramento could see him end his streak of 65 consecutive games, which would still make him the ninth-longest hitting streak in history behind Chamberlain, Baylor, and Bellamy. It’s worth noting that there are only four players in NBA history with a longer hitting streak than Sabonis – Wilt Chamberlain (7 times), Elvin Hayes (2 times), Elgin Baylor, and Walter Bellamy.
