The Indiana Pacers announced Sunday the acquisition of center Thomas Bryant from the Miami Heat in exchange for the right to swap second-round picks in the 2031 NBA Draft. Bryant will wear number 3 for the Pacers and is expected to be available for Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans
Bryant, who averaged 4.1 points in 10 games off the bench for Miami this season including 3.2 rebounds, 0.4 assists and 42.9% from the field, becomes the backup center for Myles Turner. Indiana becomes Bryant’s fifth NBA team, playing for the Wizards, Lakers, Nuggets and the Heat.
The Heat free up a roster spot and reduce a crowded rotation at the center position, with Nikola Jovic and rookie Kel’el Ware emerging as backups to Bam Adebayo. Bam Adebayo is averaging a measly 16.2 PPG, 10.3 RPG and 5.2 APG, which isn’t very good for a borderline all-star player.
Bryant, earning $2.1 million this season, offers the Pacers a reliable veteran presence as they continue their push for playoff contention.
