The Houston Rockets are keeping their core together — and Jabari Smith Jr. is officially part of the long-term plan.

According to ESPN, the 21-year-old forward intends to sign a five-year, $122 million rookie contract extension, keeping him in Houston through the 2030–31 season. The deal is fully guaranteed, negotiated between Rockets officials and Smith’s agent, Wallace Prather of LIFT Sports Management.

Smith, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has been a steady presence in Houston’s rebuild, showcasing his two-way ability and positional versatility. Last season, he averaged 15.9 points, 8.4 rebounds, and shot 36.8% from three, emerging as one of the Rockets’ most reliable forwards.

This extension is yet another move in a wild offseason for Houston. In just over two weeks, they’ve traded for Kevin Durant, extended Fred VanVleet, brought back Jalen Green, Jeff Green, and Steven Adams, and now locked in Smith as a future cornerstone.

With head coach Ime Udoka at the helm and a roster loaded with young talent and veteran leadership, the Rockets look ready to chase playoff glory sooner than expected.
