On Thursday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves secured a remarkable win over the Milwaukee Bucks with a score of 129-105. Anthony Edwards was the star performer for the Timberwolves, scoring 26 points and providing nine assists. Moreover, the Timberwolves were in excellent form beyond the arc as they made 21 of their 41 3-point attempts.
Karl-Anthony Towns, Mike Conley, Naz Reid, and Rudy Gobert also made significant contributions to the Timberwolves’ victory by scoring 19, 18, 17, and 16 points, respectively. Unfortunately, the Bucks were missing some of their key players due to injuries, including Damian Lillard and Khris Middleton, who were both out with sprained ankles. However, Brook Lopez returned to the line-up after missing three games due to the birth of his child.
The game marked the home debut of the new Bucks coach, Doc Rivers, who was hoping for a better result. The Bucks had just returned from a five-game trip, during which they won just one game. They were also operating with a short bench due to recent trades that saw them send Cam Payne and a second-round pick to the Philadelphia 76ers for Patrick Beverley.
Unfortunately, both Beverley and Minnesota’s Monte Morris, who was acquired from the Detroit Pistons along with Troy Brown and Shake Milton, were unavailable for the game. Without Lillard or Payne, the Bucks struggled to find a pure point guard. Once the result was beyond doubt, they also opted to rest Giannis Antetokounmpo for the last 16 minutes of the game.
Despite the Bucks’ struggles, A.J. Green put up an outstanding performance, scoring a career-high 27 points while shooting an impressive 7 of 8 from beyond the arc. Jae Crowder also had a fantastic game, scoring 21 points, grabbing eight rebounds, and providing five assists – all season highs for him. Antetokounmpo had 17 points and seven assists.
Minnesota took control of the game in the second quarter and never looked back, leading 63-53 at halftime. They extended their lead to 91-64 in the third quarter, with Naz Reid capping a 17-3 run by dunking and drawing a foul for a 3-point play. The Timberwolves eventually led by as many as 28 points.
Speaking after the game, Mike Conley praised the Timberwolves’ defense and communication, saying that they made it a point to communicate and be loud on the court, which allowed their defense to swarm and be all over the place. When all those things work together, they can have pretty good nights.
