San Antonio Spurs rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama was sidelined for Saturday night’s matchup against the Miami Heat due to an unspecified illness.
This marks the sixth game the rising star has missed this season. Just days before, Wembanyama earned his first All-Star selection as a Western Conference reserve, solidifying his status as one of the league’s most exciting young talents.
During his postgame press conference following a dominant 144-116 win over the Milwaukee Bucks, the 7-foot-3 big man sounded noticeably hoarse. When asked if he was feeling unwell, he attributed it to allergies, mentioning that he had been struggling with them since returning from an overseas trip.
“Allergies have been hitting me harder than ever since we got back,” Wembanyama explained. “But it’s improving.”
Since being drafted No. 1 overall in 2023, Wembanyama has dealt with allergy-related issues while adjusting to his new environment. Despite this, he continues to put up impressive numbers, averaging 24.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.9 blocks, and 3.7 assists per game. Against the Bucks, he delivered a standout performance with 30 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocks, leading the Spurs to their highest-scoring game of the season.
The team will be hoping for a quick recovery as Wembanyama remains a key part of their lineup moving forward.
