The Golden State Warriors acquired point guard Dennis Schroder from the Brooklyn Nets on Sunday in exchange for injured forward De’Anthony Melton. The deal also sends two-way guard Reece Beekman and three unprotected second-round picks to Brooklyn, while Golden State receives a 2025 second-round pick.
Schröder is averaging 18.4 points and 6.6 assists per game this season while shooting a career-best 39% from three-point range. His sharpshooting will pair well with Stephen Curry, giving the Warriors another offensive weapon as they push for playoff success.
Brooklyn, 10th in the Eastern Conference, gains draft capital but loses Schroder’s contributions to the team. Melton, recovering from left ACL surgery, is out for the season. By league rules, he could only be traded starting Sunday.
This move marks Golden State Schroder’s eighth team in 12 NBA seasons. He previously played for Atlanta, Oklahoma City, the Lakers, Boston, Toronto, and Houston before Brooklyn. Schröder also led Germany to the 2023 Basketball World Cup title.
With a 14-10 record, Golden State creates a better roster for a deeper playoff run, with the loss of veteran players like Klay Thompson and Chris Paul.
