In Week 22 of the NBA season, Anthony Davis, the star player of the Los Angeles Lakers, has been named the Western Conference Player of the Week.
His incredible performance has been instrumental in leading the Lakers towards a successful chase to the playoffs. Currently, the Lakers sit at the 8th seed in the Western Conference, with a record of 39-32, and are currently facing a play-in position versus the Golden State Warriors.
Davis’s stats this week have been nothing short of remarkable, with an incredible 27 PPG points scored, most of which came from points in the paint, due to his size as a 6’ 10”, 253-pound player. He also pulled down 16.7 RPG (rebounds per game), and an impressive 2 BPG blocks, including a 4-block performance against the Joel Embiid-less 76ers.
Davis also contributed 1.3 SPG (steals per game), which positions him as a top contender for the KIA Defensive Player of the Year award. Additionally, Davis dished out 4.3 APG (assists per game), and made an impressive 1 three-pointer per game at a 50 percent clip.
His shooting percentage was also impressive, with 68.6% of his shots made, due to his incredible numbers, he led the Lakers to an undefeated 3-0 record in Week 22. Contributions from the all-time scoring leader, LeBron James, and two incredibly capable scorers, Reaves and D-Lo, also helped the team’s performance. If the Lakers continue to perform at this level, they may very well become title contenders.
In the Eastern Conference, Derrick White of the Boston Celtics has earned the Player of the Week award for the second time this season. He led the Celtics to an undefeated 4-0 record this week, with an impressive 20.3 PPG (points per game), showing off his incredible talent on the court.
As a tall guard, he also pulled down 6.5 RPG, and his playmaking abilities were evident with 8.8 APG. He also demonstrated his contribution to the defensive end with 0.8 SPG and an impressive 1 BPG. While his shooting was slightly below his regular average, it did not affect his overall performance much. He shot 41.5% FG (field goal percentage) and made 34.1% of his 3-pointers, which equates to making 3.5 three-pointers per game.
White’s impressive stats have helped the Boston Celtics to the top of the NBA for the first time since 2016. Which was led by Isiah Thomas, a young Jaylen Brown, and Marcus Smart.
