Devin Booker

Devin Booker is one of the most loyal players in NBA history

Devin Booker was drafted by the Phoenix Suns in 2015 as the 13th pick. He averaged 14 points in his rookie season and finished 4th in Rookie of the Year voting, but the Suns finished 23-59, and that was a sign of what was to come. From Booker’s rookie season through 2019-20, the Suns went 121-280, with a win percentage of .302. That stretch was historically one of the worst runs in NBA history. Booker averaged 25 points per game from 2016-2020, which made people around the league question why DBook was staying in Phoenix.

After the bubble, Devin Booker became somewhat of a meme for staying on a team known for losing. Other NBA teams wanted him, and some Suns fans even wanted a return for him in a trade, but Book wanted Phoenix, Arizona. He never requested a trade and never complained. The Suns took note of that and traded for Chris Paul.

CP3 made an impact right away. The Suns started 5-1 and looked like the best team in the NBA to begin the season, and they ended up finishing 51-21. They went 34-11 in their last 45 games. They beat the Lakers in 6, swept the Nuggets, and beat the Clippers in 6 in the conference finals.

The Suns ended up losing the NBA Finals to the Bucks. Phoenix went up 2-0 in the series but lost four straight, highlighted by Giannis dropping 50 in Game 6 of the Finals. That moment created the famous “damn” clip.

Devin Booker has continued to stay loyal to the Suns. He has gone through several “superstars” the team has tried to pair with him, and it has not worked so far, from Kevin Durant to Bradley Beal. The Suns have gone 231-161 in the regular season since losing the Finals, making them one of the more successful franchises in recent years, but still no championship in sight.
