The New York Knicks are continuing to lock in low-cost depth pieces for their frontcourt.
According to ESPN, the Knicks are picking up the $2 million team option on center Ariel Hukporti, as confirmed by his agent Tadas Bulotas.
The 7-foot German-Togolese big man was known for his rebounding, rim protection, and energy overseas, and the Knicks clearly want to see how his game translates to the NBA.
With the option picked up, Hukporti becomes a valuable depth piece behind Mitchell Robinson and Isaiah Hartenstein, especially as New York continues to eye frontcourt durability after a bruising playoff run.
This move gives the Knicks flexibility and upside at a cheap price — and another young big to develop heading into next season.
