In a remarkable performance, Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to a resounding 122-99 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Monday night. The rookie center recorded his second triple-double of the season with 27 points, 14 rebounds, and a career-high 10 blocks. He made 10 of his 14 attempts and had five assists and two steals in just 29 minutes of play.

Wembanyama’s dominant performance was crucial in snapping the Spurs’ seven-game losing streak, which began on January 27 against Minnesota. The Frenchman, who leads the NBA in blocks, was in great form throughout the game, showcasing his all-around talent and excellent decision-making skills.

San Antonio coach Gregg Popovich was full of praise for Wembanyama, highlighting his feel for the game and his ability to impact it in various ways. Popovich also acknowledged the significance of Wembanyama’s performance, which included breaking his previous career-high record of eight blocks set against Memphis on November 18.

Wembanyama’s triple-double with blocks was the first of its kind since Clint Capela achieved the feat for the Atlanta Hawks against Minnesota on January 22, 2021. It was also the first time anyone in the NBA had blocked 10 shots in a game since then.

In addition to his impressive stats, Wembanyama also made history by becoming just the fourth rookie since 1973-74 to record a triple-double with 10 blocks. The only other player to achieve this feat was NBA legend David Robinson in 1990.

Wembanyama was well-supported by Devin Vassell, who had a strong outing with 25 points, and Jeremy Sochan, who added 16 points to the Spurs’ tally. Tre Jones also had a notable performance with 10 assists.

On the other hand, the Raptors struggled to keep up with the Spurs, despite the efforts of Gradey Dick, Kelly Olynyk, and RJ Barrett, who scored 18, 17, and 13 points, respectively. Raptors All-Star Scottie Barnes, who had registered his third triple-double of the season in the team’s previous game, had a disappointing outing with just seven points on 3-of-15 shooting.

While the Spurs can celebrate an impressive victory, the Raptors will have to regroup and work on their performance ahead of their next game.
