The Los Angeles Lakers proved their depth in a 132-122 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Saturday night, despite LeBron James out due to illness. Anthony Davis, who was questionable with a sprained ankle, stepped up in a big way, delivering a monster stat line of 36 points, 15 rebounds, and eight assists.
Davis wasn’t alone in carrying the load. Austin Reaves had a breakout game with 26 points and a career-high 16 assists, while Rui Hachimura added 21 points. The Lakers’ bench also delivered, with Dalton Knecht scoring 18 points and Max Christie chipping in 16.
James, averaging 23.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 9.0 assists this season, missed his third game this month but is not expected to be sidelined for long. Gabe Vincent filled in as a starter, and the Lakers’ supporting cast proved more than capable of stepping up in the absence of their superstar duo.
Davis, who suffered an ankle injury earlier in the week, showed resilience, going through pregame warmups and ultimately leading the Lakers to their fourth win in five games. Even without James, the team showcased its depth and chemistry, keeping pace in the Western Conference standings.
The Lakers’ ability to adapt when their stars are out is becoming a key storyline for their season, and if performances like this continue, they’ll remain a tough matchup for any opponent.
