On Monday night, Joel Embiid made history by scoring a career-high and franchise-record 70 points in less than 37 minutes against the San Antonio Spurs. This incredible performance has solidified Embiid’s position as one of the most dominant players in the NBA today.

Interestingly, on a per-minute basis, Embiid is having the best scoring season in NBA history. The previous record was held by Wilt Chamberlain, who averaged an astonishing 50.4 points per game in the 1961-62 season. However, it’s worth noting that Chamberlain played an average of 48.5 minutes per game that season, thanks to overtimes. On a per-36-minutes basis, Chamberlain averaged 37.4 points, a record that stood until Embiid’s performance on Monday.

With his career-high of 70 points, Embiid is now averaging an impressive 36.1 points in just 34.3 minutes, which translates to a rate of 38.0 per 36. This means that, on a per-minute basis, Embiid is currently scoring more points than any other player in the history of the NBA. It’s an incredible achievement, and it’s clear that Embiid is a force to be reckoned with on the basketball court.
