On Friday night, Luka Doncic and Devin Booker made headlines with their impressive scoring spree in the NBA. Doncic, who had already set a franchise record with 41 points in the first half, went on to score another 32 points in the second half, thereby breaking his own record and setting a new franchise record with 73 points. His performance tied for the fourth-most points scored in a single game in NBA history. Meanwhile, Booker also had an outstanding game, scoring 62 points for the Phoenix Suns in their game against Indiana.
This week has been a historic one in the NBA, with several players delivering some of the most impressive offensive performances the league has ever seen. Doncic and Booker’s feat marked the fifth time in NBA history where two players scored at least 60 points on the same day. This was also the second time this week, with the first being when Joel Embiid scored 70 points for Philadelphia and Karl-Anthony Towns had 62 for Minnesota on Monday.
Before this week, the most recent occurrence of two 60-point games on the same day was on April 9, 1978, when David Thompson scored 73 and George Gervin scored 63. The NBA went nearly 46 years without another such day before Embiid and Towns pulled it off.
Doncic’s 73-point game is only topped by Wilt Chamberlain and Kobe Bryant on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Chamberlain scored 100 on March 2, 1962, and 78 on Dec. 8, 1961, while Bryant scored 81 points on Jan. 18, 2006.
In addition to his impressive scoring, Doncic also had 10 rebounds and seven assists, becoming the fifth player in NBA history with at least 70 points and 10 rebounds in a game, joining Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, David Robinson, and Embiid. Moreover, with his assists added in, Doncic also became the first player in NBA history to have as many points, rebounds, and assists in the same game as he did on Friday night.
As for Booker, his 62-point game is the second-highest scoring game of his career, with his career-high being 70 points. Despite his impressive performance, the Suns lost to Indiana. Booker made 22 of his 37 shots from the field, 12 of 13 from the line, and 6 of 12 from 3-point range. He has now scored at least 59 points three times in his career, with the Suns losing all three games. Booker now owns 4 of the top 5 highest scoring games for the Phoenix Suns Franchise, a 70 point game in a loss vs Boston, 59 in 209 and 58 points in 2022.
Overall, Doncic and Booker’s performances were nothing short of remarkable and will undoubtedly go down in NBA history as some of the most memorable games ever played.
