Clint Capela Sidelined for Remainder of Regular Season with Hand Injury

The Atlanta Hawks will be without veteran center Clint Capela for the rest of the regular season after an MRI revealed a ligament injury in his left hand.

Following an MRI on March 17, Capela was diagnosed with a ligament injury in the fourth metacarpal of his left hand. He will begin rehabilitation immediately and will be re-evaluated in 3-4 weeks, meaning he could potentially return for the play-in tournament if Atlanta secures a spot.

Capela’s Season & Impact

The 30-year-old big man, who lost his starting role to Onyeka Okongwu in mid-January, has played 55 games this season, starting 41 of them. He is averaging 8.9 points and 8.5 rebounds, a notable dip after eight consecutive seasons scoring in double figures.

Despite the setback, the Hawks (7th in the East, 37-35) remain in the mix for the play-in tournament, with Okongwu and Bruno Fernando expected to handle center duties in Capela’s absence.

Can the Hawks survive without their veteran rim protector? 🤔
