Tatum’s comeback is already showing how important he is for the Celtics. Even coming back from an Achilles injury and clearly still shaking off the rust he’s been aggressive right away. Through his first couple games he’s taking a lot of shots, which is expected when a star is finding his rhythm again. The shots haven’t all been falling yet, but the offense still looks great. One good sign is that he’s actually moving the ball quicker than before, holding it for less time per touch than last season. That means he’s not forcing things or stopping the flow of the offense, he’s just playing within the system while getting comfortable again.

It’s February 12th, 2026, and Jayson Tatum has yet to play an NBA game this season. But still, the Boston Celtics are a good team. How? The team is 35-19; they have a top-5 offense, a top-10 defense, a top-3 net rating, and make a lot of threes. Most importantly, they don’t turn the ball over. Joe Mazzulla, time and time again, has proven that he is an elite head coach in the NBA.
As for the players, Jaylen Brown has been incredible; he’s in the midst of the best year of his career and is legitimately in the conversation for MVP. Having career-high numbers in points, rebounds, and assists per game. They’ve seen big jumps in production from guys who sparsely saw the floor last season, like Neemias Queta and Jordan Walsh. As well as seeing career-high numbers from Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Sam Hauser.
