Former NBA point guard Jeremy Lin has officially announced his retirement from professional basketball, ending a career that inspired millions worldwide.
In a heartfelt Instagram post Saturday night, Lin reflected on his journey:
“It’s been the honor of a lifetime to compete against the fiercest competitors under the brightest lights and to challenge what the world thought was possible for someone who looks like me. I’ve lived out my wildest childhood dreams to play in front of fans all around the world. I will forever be the kid who felt fully alive every time I touched a basketball.”
Undrafted in 2010, Lin averaged 11.6 points and 4.3 assists over nine NBA seasons. But his career will forever be remembered for “Linsanity” — an 11-game stretch with the New York Knicks in 2012 where he averaged 24.6 points, 9.2 assists, and 4.1 rebounds. Madison Square Garden roared every night, and Lin became a global phenomenon, redefining what was possible for Asian-American players in the NBA.
After New York, Lin became a starter in Houston before playing with the Lakers, Hornets, Nets, Hawks, and Raptors. He later extended his career overseas in the Chinese Basketball Association and Taiwan’s professional league, continuing to showcase his love for the game.
Lin’s story is more than basketball — it’s about breaking barriers, representation, and inspiring future generations. While the final chapter of his playing career closes, his impact will be felt forever.
Thank you, Jeremy Lin, for Linsanity and beyond.
