Michael Porter Jr. has suffered a left hamstring strain. Following an MRI, the Brooklyn Nets announced that Porter Jr. will be sidelined for approximately 2–3 weeks and will then be re-evaluated within that same 2–3 week window to determine his readiness to return.
This comes after he has already missed 3-5 games with a sprained right ankle, with the timeline suggesting that a potential return would leave only 5-6 games left in the regular season. Many reports indicate this could effectively end his season, as the Nets have no incentive to rush him back and not only ruin their lottery odds, but also waste his time and risk another injury.
Michael Porter Jr. is the Nets’ new All-Star
Michael last played on March 10th vs the Pistons. During this season, he has averaged a career high 24.2 Points (16th in the NBA), 7.1 Rebounds, 3 Assists and 1.1 Steals per game, shooting an impressive 46.3% Field Goal, 36.3% 3 Pointer, and 85.9% Free Throw.
This is a clear step-up for Michael Porter Jr. from his Denver days, but he hasn’t shied away from this new role. The Nets are in full rebuild mode, and with a massive roster overhaul, Michael has become the leader of the team. The Nets sit at 17-52, 13th in the East, and are on a 5-game losing streak, precisely what the tank doctor ordered.

This marked a clear step up from prior years, showcasing his scoring gravity as a 6’10” wing with elite shooting range. They are positioning themselves well for the 2026 draft class, where a top 5 pick seems all but uncertain. All this aligns with their strategy; there’s no rush on Porter’s return, since it not only preserves Porter but also improves their draft odds.
