The Start.
Nikola Jokić entered the NBA with very little attention, getting drafted during a Taco Bell commercial. But it did not take long for the Denver Nuggets to see his potential. Early in his career, he improved every season and stood out because of his passing and ability to control the game as a center. By the late 2010s, he became an All-Star and one of the most efficient offensive players in the league.
The Impact.
Jokic went on to win back to back MVP awards in 2021 and 2022, which is rare and put him among some of the best players ever. He is known for playing in a team first way, which helped turn the Nuggets into real contenders in the Western Conference the past few seasons. Playing with different head coaches and new roles from other players, Jokic has continued to improve his craft every single year.
The Dominance.
In 2023, Jokić reached the highest point of his career when he led Denver to its first NBA championship and won Finals MVP. His ability to score, rebound, and pass at such a high level has changed how people think about the center position. Many people in the NBA think bigs dominate the league more than they ever have, because of players like Jokic being able to take jump shots.
The Story.
His story is especially interesting because he started as a second round pick who was not very well known and worked his way up to becoming one of the best players in the world, truly shows what hard work and some confidence in an organization can do.
