Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors have a real situation on their hands. Curry has been out since January 30th, with an injury commonly known as runner’s knee. MRI’s show no structural damage, but Steph remains in pain, so the Warriors are playing this extremely cautiously to avoid reinjury.
Golden State is slowly losing their placing in the Play-In tournament while Curry sits, and with the NBA season less then a month away from conclusion, the Warriors have to make some tough calls, either end the season and let Steph recover, or push for a Playoff berth, with or without him.

Breaking Down the Warriors’ Situation With Curry
Curry Was Still Playing at an Elite Level
Steph Curry before the injury was still performing like one of the leagues best players. 27.5 Points, 4.8 Assists and 3.5 Rebounds is still elite for a 37 Year old playing 31 Minutes a game. But this season, he has played only 39 Games due to this injury. Even at his age, Curry remains the entire offensive engine for the Warriors, with his shooting still being the leagues best.

The Warriors Are Sliding Without Him
The Warriors are 32-33, 9th in the West and 5-10 without Steph since Jan. 30th. The main struggles are their offense. There has been a major drop in offensive efficiency, with difficulty creating shots and plays without Curry’s spacing.
Additionally, Jimmy Butler suffered an ACL tear a few months back, taking him out for the season. The Warriors only reliable 2nd option is gone, with their recent inconsistency with availability from Kristaps Porzingis, the Warriors are in a tough spot.
Playoff Odds and Contract Context
The Warriors have a 42% chance to make the playoffs, with being the favourites to miss the playoffs. This would immediately ruin the season they have spent so much to build, all for nothing. With around 17 games left in the regular season, the Warriors are fighting to stay in them Play-In race.
But they don’t have much time left, with Steph’s injury taking him out for pretty much the remainder of the season, he only has 1 Year left on his contract, which runs through the entire 2026-27 season. This matters because Curry has not been vocal about signing a new one, and they could lose him to either free agency or even retirement.

Steph Curry remains the heart of the Warriors dynasty, and their playoff hopes almost entirely depend on his detrimental return. Forcing him back too soon could risk long-term health, but if they don’t start moving quickly, they risk losing him forever.
