Bryce James, the son of Los Angeles Lakers’ superstar LeBron James, has decided to transfer back to Sierra Canyon High School after spending a year at Notre Dame. Bryce had previously spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at Sierra Canyon before moving to Notre Dame this year.
According to Eric Sondheimer of the LA Times, Bryce officially unenrolled from Notre Dame and turned in his school and basketball equipment back to the school on Tuesday. He will be eligible to compete immediately at Sierra Canyon, thanks to the CIF Southern Section’s A-B-A rule.
Bryce would have been ineligible for the first half of Notre Dame’s season due to transfer rules, but since he didn’t compete in any games for the school, he’ll instantly be eligible at Sierra Canyon.
Recently, there were reports that Bryce was going to leave Sierra Canyon for Studio City’s Campbell Hall ahead of the 2023-24 season before his short-lived tenure at Notre Dame.
As a sophomore, Bryce didn’t see much playing time for Sierra Canyon, averaging 3.8 points across 12 varsity contests. He spent those seasons playing alongside his older brother, Bronny, who is now at USC and has yet to appear in a game as he recovers from surgery for a potential congenital heart defect after suffering cardiac arrest in July.
As of now, Bryce is considered a three-star prospect in the 247Sports’ Composite Rankings. He is listed as the No. 135 prospect overall, the No. 21 shooting guard, and the No. 16 player from the state of California. He has offers from Duquesne and Ohio State.
