2 of the biggest injuries, both sitting in the same series. Although both of them are devastating for their teams, they both hold completely different realities.
Luka Doncic and Jalen Williams are both sidelined with hamstring strains entering Game 1 of a highly anticipated matchup, but this is where the similarity ends for the 2 superstars, as the contrast in timelines and seveirty range so far apart.

Severity Defines Everything With Hamstrings
while both players have injured the exact same leg in the same exact muscle, both have very different outcomes. Luka Doncic suffered from a brutal Grade 2 partial tear in his left hamstring a week before the playoffs, re-injuring the same leg he hurt earlier in the season.
Jalen Williams, however, suffered from a mild Grade 1 strain, on the opposite leg. One injury is all about managing the damage, while the other is just managing a decent recovery process, 2 very, very different situations.
Timelines Moving at Different Speeds
Most fans suspect that both superstars will return in similar timing, but that could not be further away from the truth. Luka Doncic is over 30 days into his recovery, but is nowhere near full basketball activites, not even participating in team practices yet.
Jalen Williams, on the other hand is only around 14 days into his recovery, and the Oklahoma City Thunder suspect him to return soon, some suspect as soon as game 3, but that all remains questionable and up to his progress in recovery.
The Real Impact on the Series
Without Luka Doncic, the Lakers lose their primary creator, their offensive leader, and their entire gameplan shifts from relying on Luka Doncic’s scoring and playmaking abilities, to creating their own looks and allowing LeBron James to do his thing.
While the Oklahoma City Thunder’s success is largely due to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams has been the perfect 2nd option since entering the NBA in 2022. The Thunder do not perform at their usual all time level, but they still function like a #1 seed would, and that is the key.
Jalen Williams could return early and shift the odds even higher towards the Thunder repeating as NBA Champions, but if Luka Doncic decides to return early, he might be on the roster, but he may not fully be himself in the 1st few games.
Although this series is heavily favoured towards the Oklahoma City Thunder, with the Lakers having a 7% chance to win, but they are doing so without their 2nd best player. There is still hope for Luka Doncic to return, but if he can’t, then the Lakers season will end here.
