Who Is The MVP In 2026: The Brutal Truth

The 2025-26 NBA Season is nearly over, and with that, the MVP race is now a 2-player race: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama. SHai has dominated all season long while having the best team in the league, while Wemby’s late-season surge and historic 2-way impact have shot him up into contention, but this race is not about dominance; it is about impact.

Shai Gilgeous Alexander Is The Safest Pick for MVP

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been the standard for MVP for 2 whole years now; this season changes nothing. He is averaging 31.4 Points, proving his pure instinct as a scorer, but adding on 6.6 Assists, 4.4 Rebounds on 55% Field Goal, 38% 3-Pointer, and 88% Free Throw makes him one of the most efficient scorers in the NBA.

The “best player on the best team” formula has been proven to be the strongest MVP case, and with OKC locking up 1st place, his elite efficiency, consistency, and offensive engine make him the most clear-cut candidate. Out of all the contenders for the award, SGA has the safest, most proven case.

Victor Wembanyama: The True Underdog This Season

Victor Wembanyama has been the darkhorse pick for the award ever since the season started. Averaging 24.2 Points, 11.3 Rebounds, and 3.1 Blocks while shooting 50.1% from the field. Wemby himself has said why he thinks he is the MVP, and one of those reasons was because of his defense, rim protection, and general 2-way metrics.

During March, Wemby has averaged 26 Points so far in March, and with the Spurs rising in the standings, he could become the youngest MVP in NBA history, breaking Derrick Rose’s record by about 90 days.

Although he has a lower scoring volume than SGA, he might not have played the most games, and evidently, the Spurs aren’t the best team. Wemby has the most impact on his team and the strongest late momentum of any MVP candidate, and that’s why he is my pick.

SGA has defined what winning and consistency truly mean, but Wemby has brought in a new level of dominance and uniqueness to the race. Shai is the safest, most obvious pick this season, but if SGA slips at all, if he makes 1 mistake, 1 missed game or loss, and Wemby is right there to take that MVP.
